Gathering Through Tea and Making

Invitation Art Prize Public Program

21 & 28 November 2026 | Joondalup Contemporary Art Gallery

I'm delighted that two upcoming public programs will extend the ideas explored in my installation Where Conversations Gather, currently exhibited as part of the 2026 City of Joondalup Invitation Art Prize.

At the heart of the work is the idea that gathering can be an act of cultural care. These two events offer different ways to experience that proposition through shared rituals of tea and making.

Saturday 21 November | 10:30–11:45am
Tea & Gathering: Cha Dao Bowl Tea Ceremony with Ai-Ling Truong

Led by Ai-Ling Truong, this intimate tea ceremony invites participants to slow down and experience the contemplative practice of Cha Dao, or the Way of Tea. A gentle opportunity for presence, reflection and connection through a shared ritual.

Saturday 28 November | 1–3pm
Folding Ritual Workshop with Jacky Cheng

I'll be facilitating a hands-on workshop exploring folding as both a creative and ritual practice. Through simple, repetitive gestures, we'll transform individual sheets of paper into interconnected forms, creating space for conversation, attentiveness and shared making.

No prior experience is necessary, and all materials are provided.

Both events take place at Joondalup Contemporary Art Gallery, 102 Boas Avenue, Joondalup.

I look forward to gathering with you!
