I'm delighted to share that The Neighbour at the Gate has commenced its regional tour at the New England Regional Art Museum (NERAM) in Armidale, NSW.
Originally commissioned by the National Art School and curated by Clothilde Bullen OAM, Micheal Do and Zali Morgan, the exhibition brings together newly commissioned works by six artists exploring themes of migration, identity, belonging and the enduring legacies of exclusion and resilience.
My contribution, Imaginary Homelands (2025), draws upon the symbolism of the Chinese paifang (archway) as a threshold between places, cultures and ways of belonging. Through paper, silk thread and acts of making, the work reflects on the experience of navigating identity from a distance and the ways memory, migration and cultural inheritance shape our understanding of home.
I am honoured for the exhibition to begin its touring journey at NERAM and look forward to seeing these important conversations continue across regional Australia over the coming year.
The Neighbour at the Gate is on view at NERAM, Armidale from 29 May – 26 July 2026 before touring to Port Macquarie, Tweed and Wagga Wagga.
